Japan is one of the most earthquake-prone country in the world. Our ancestors chose to coexist with wild nature in the shaking land and found in it the beauty of fragility. My work is based on this aesthetics and attempts to avoid constructing strong structures or archiving and recording specific nature environments, instead represent metaphysical soundscapes containing the beauty in the fragility of things that can be broken by the slightest vibration.
“It shakes, breaks, transforms, piles up, and breaks again.”
If it is possible to create a metaphysical garden by composing these fluctuating sound-gestures, what kind of landscape can we see? This is my core question in my compositions.
And this original landscape represents the “beauty of fragile” and has a strong connection to the climate of Japan, an earthquake-prone country, and the aesthetics such as “Wabi-Sabi” that have been formed there. The title, “earden” is a coined word combining the words ear, garden and eden.

日本は世界有数の地震大国である。私たちの先祖は、揺れる大地の上で荒ぶる自然を受け入れ、そこに「壊れていく」美しさを見出した。私の作品はこの美学に基づき、強固な構造や、特定の自然環境を記録・保存することを避け、わずかな振動でくずれてしまうような脆弱さの中から美しさを見出し、形而上の音風景を描けないか試みている。
“揺れ、壊れ、形を変え、積み上げられ、そしてまた壊れる”
このように変動するサウンドジェスチャーを組み合わせ、形而上の庭を作ることがもしできたなら、どんな情景がひろがるだろう？これがこの作品の中心にある問いである。そして、”壊れゆく美しさ”を表すその情景は、地震大国である日本の風土やそこで形成されていった”わび・さび”のような日本の美学とも強い結びつきを持つ。タイトルである、”earden”は、”ear”、”garden”そして”eden”を組み合わせた造語である。
